Health Benefits
In addition to the wonderful flavors they bring to any dish, spices have many healthful benefits, another aspect of cooking that many good chefs consider as they craft their meals.

You may be surprised to learn that herbs and spices have more disease-fighting antioxidants than many fruits and vegetables. Because we believe that a knowledgeable chef is a good chef, we want to share some of our researched information on the health benefits of the spices we use in the Mohini Indian Fusion blends.

Black Pepper
Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial, it helps improves digestion and promotes intestinal health, and stimulates the breakdown of fat cells.

Cardamom
Helps to stimulate digestion and relieve flatulence; can help to reduce heartburn

Cinnamon
Has one of the highest antioxidant levels of any spice, and is also anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. Useful for improving circulation. May also help to lower blood sugar levels and be useful in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes. Can help lower triglycerides, LDL, and total cholesterol.

Cloves
An anti-inflammatory, cloves can help ease the stiffness and pain associated with arthritis. Can help reduce congestion and stimulate digestion. Anti-bacterial properties help relieve nausea and diarrhea.

Coriander
An anti-inflammatory and antioxidant rich, it contains vitamins A and C, and minerals. Effective against swelling, high cholesterol levels, diarrhea, mouth ulcers, anemia, digestion, menstrual disorders, conjunctivitis, and skin disorders.

Cumin
A good source of iron and manganese, it helps digestion and bloating. May have anti-carcinogenic properties.

Fennel
Relieves congestion, stomach cramps and headaches

Fenugreek
Lowers cholesterol; prevents gas; relieves sore throat and congestion; laxative.

Ginger Powder
Contains antioxidants and can help protect against disease. It can help calm spasms and reduce flatulence in the digestive system. An excellent treatment for nausea associated with travel sickness, pregnancy and hangovers. An anti-inflammatory, it may also relieve pain and swelling associated with arthritis.

Mustard Seed
Helps alleviate congestion, bronchitis, sore throat, and arthritis

Paprika
Contains capsaicin, whose anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects may lower the risk of cancer. Helps heal canker sores; improves circulation; alleviates symptoms of colds and kidney infections.

Red Pepper
Capsaicin makes this a good source of antioxidants. An anti-inflammatory, it helps improve circulation, enhance memory and opens respiratory passages. Helps ease congestion and clear the lungs and nose, boost immunity, prevent stomach ulcers by killing bacteria, assist in weight loss by stimulating metabolism, reduce blood cholesterol, manage triglyceride levels, and may help lower the risk of some cancers.

Star Anise
Acts as a diuretic and helps reduce flatulence.

Turmeric
Rich in antioxidants, and containing anti-inflammatory compounds called curcuminoids, helps reduce cholesterol, inflammation, indigestion, and inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, cystic fibrosis, and Alzheimer's disease. May aid in cardiovascular and liver protection. May help against cancer.
